How To Become A Permanent Makeup Artist

PMU is a relatively new addition in India and therefore very few places exist that offer proper certification and training. Many of the PMU artists who’ve made a name for themselves in India were forced to get their training abroad due to a complete lack of such facilities in the past.

Unlike regular Makeup, PMU can not be self-taught or learned from the internet – at least not without risking permanent damage to someone’s looks! PMU training is both intensive

Today the situation is changing. PMU training and courses are opening up across India as the massive influence of social media is making people more aware of fashion trends worldwide. PMU as an industry is massive in developed nations and has huge potential in India as well.

Let us delve into a little more detail of PMU courses by taking a look at how we train our mentees and students. Lizard’s Skin Artdemy in collaboration with Facelift has successfully trained multiple batches of PMU artists.

Students start with practicing hair strokes, shading & drawing eyebrows on paper. This stage of training is meant to build the foundation for the advanced techniques they will be practicing on Latex in the days to come. When the students move to latex they start getting a sense of how much pressure they need to apply.

Once the students transition to latex, they are allowed to work with real PMU equipment which is provided to them as part of a kit. They practice on Latex pads that simulate human skin until they achieve a high degree of control. Following this, they are taught various techniques like 6D Microblading, Ombré Shading, Face anatomy and Eyebrow Mapping, Combined Technique, Lip Correction & Blush etc.

The next part of their training concerns human anatomy, facial features, and knowledge of skin, hair, and color. Without a deep knowledge of human anatomy and color, they can’t hope to make the results of a PMU procedure look natural and blend in with the surrounding area.

Hygiene is one of the most important aspects of PMU training due to the inherent risk of blood-borne pathogens. In PMU courses hygiene is often combined with the practice of setting up workstations effectively so that a procedure can be conducted smoothly.

After all of these steps are done, the trainees are allowed to perform simple PMU procedures on volunteers where they hone the smooth performance of a PMU procedure before finally progressing to performing PMU procedures on clients. After all of these stages of dedicated training and practice, a student is certified as a PMU professional.
